We are really enjoying living at Avimor. We take lots of walks and hikes and we're getting in better shape. Being a nerdy bird-watcher, Avimor is like a little piece of heaven. Check out my Avimor Birding Blog which gets updated a whole lot more than my personal blog.
At church, Jessica has been called to work in the Primary. She is being transferred from the 7 year olds to the nursery, much to her satisfaction. I was called as Ward Choir Director. This freaks me out. We'll see how it goes. We had our first practice today with me at the helm and I felt it went pretty well. We're working on a number for the Pioneer Day theme called "Pilgrim of Peace" written by my good friend Tom Broschinsky from our ward in Mesa, AZ.
Jessica and I are still devouring books. I recently completed East of Eden, my first time reading Steinbeck. (that's an Idaho education for ya). I am now reading "Truman" by David McCullough, the same great historian/author of 1776 and John Adams. Truman really impresses me as a good man. I don't agree with his politics along the lines of FDR, but his heart was surely in the right place. He was a politician who liked to get things done and done right. He hated corruption and wasteful spending. He was a true public servant even if he did have some socialist tendencies. (I'm still at the part when he was the Senator from Missouri.) More to come! (like 800 pages more).
The friendly debate over Universal Health Care continues on my cousin-in-law's blog the Quiet Donkey. Our hearts are in the same place, but the method of administration is where we respectfully disagree. There is some good philosophy of men, mingled with scripture going on between us if you are interested. You'll have to look at the comments.
The home building industry seems to have hit bottom. It may bounce along the bottom for a while, but we had two contracts this last week and at least one more coming this week, so it gives us a breath of fresh air.
I am deeply disappointed with the direction President Obama is taking our country. Even his VP Biden gaffed again by saying the stimulus isn't working. I'd just like to fore-thank my great-grandchildren for paying for our stupidity. I hope we can clean up the mess before they come along. We just need to vote for people who will restore the government to its proper role which allows us to retain our freedom and ultimately our agency. It is going to take us all to stand up for the divinely inspired Constitution to keep it hanging by that thread until the Lord himself comes to take over.
